Trip Overview
This short but powerful ride explores the cultural heartland of the Gurung people, a proud Himalayan community known for their warmth, tradition and mountain spirit. The journey rolls through lush river valleys, forested ridges and ancient villages where stone houses, prayer flags and terraced fields paint a timeless picture of rural Nepal.
Each day blends pedaling adventure with moments of quiet immersion. You’ll climb through jungle tracks, cruise along ridge-top jeep roads, and descend into villages surrounded by endless views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre. It’s a compact ride that captures Nepal’s diversity in just a few days – perfect for riders looking to connect with culture, trails and the simple rhythm of mountain life.

Itinerary
Morning starts with a drive from Lakeside to Nayapul (approx. 1.5 hrs / 42 km). From here, the real riding begins. The trail climbs steeply from the Modi Khola valley through terraced hillsides and small villages. The surface alternates between gravel jeep track and stone steps, demanding but rewarding. As the air cools and the scenery opens, the first peaks of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli appear. The day ends in Ghandruk, a traditional Gurung settlement with classic slate-roofed houses and mountain panoramas.

The day begins with a steep descent to the river, crossing the Modi Khola on a narrow bridge before climbing toward Landruk. This is another charming Gurung village, perched on the opposite slope with wide Himalayan views. The ride continues along a ridgeline track through Tolka and into shaded forest trails, passing through rhododendron and oak. The final climb to Pothana follows a jeep road to a ridge known locally as the Australian Camp, with a spectacular sunset over Machhapuchhre.

Wake early for sunrise over Annapurna and Dhampus Ridge before starting a flowing descent through forest and farmland. The track winds through Dhampus village, famous for its mountain views, then continues along a ridge-top gravel road to Astam. Expect rolling terrain, quiet roads and friendly greetings from farmers and schoolchildren. A final descent leads to Milan Chowk and onto paved roads for an easy spin back to Lakeside.

Pokhara Lakes & Hills Overnighter - Panchase, Dhampus & Astam

Trip Overview
This overnight ride captures everything that makes Pokhara special. From the shores of Fewa Lake, we climb up to the World Peace Pagoda for sweeping views of the city and the Annapurnas. From there, a rough trail drops into the farming valley of Pame before the real climb begins. The track to Panchase is a mix of gravel and jeep road that winds through terraced hillsides, bamboo forest and village tea stops. By afternoon we reach the peaceful ridge-top of Baldari, where we stay in a small local hotel surrounded by mist, mountain views and birdsong.
The next morning begins with the sound of roosters and prayer chants from nearby houses. We ride through quiet forest and roll down into Dhampus, a classic hilltop village known for its breathtaking views of Machhapuchhre and the Annapurnas. From there, we follow a ridgeline trail toward Astam, passing small farms and homestays. The last stretch rolls gently back to Pokhara, ending with cold drinks by the lake and a well-earned sense of satisfaction.
