Want to Bag a QOM/KOM?
Bhimdhunga Loop de Loop
Tour de Nuwakot
This is an epic day ride with plenty of climbing and some steep gradients. We pedal out of the Kathmandu Valley and over into the Nuwakot Valley, where the lush farming landscape opens up in front of us. On a clear day, the Himalayas stretch out along the horizon.
There are two KOM/QOM segments to aim for one on the Kakani climb and another on the climb from Nuwakot Valley back to Gurje Bhanjyang.
This is a tough but rewarding day ride. We return to Kathmandu via Shivapuri National Park, rolling back into the city for a well-earned beer and a solid meal.
Namobuddha Loop – 96 km
This is a great, long ride with a nice mix of sustained climbing, rolling descents, and undulating pedalling. We climb out of the valley via Lakhuri Bhanjyang, then enjoy the long downhill into the pretty valley of Pauntie. Pauntie itself is an interesting traditional town with strong religious significance, and we can roll through its cobbled back streets to the mythical place where three rivers meet.
From here, it’s about 20 km of mostly flat riding, finishing with a short, steep climb to the picturesque Namobuddha Monastery, where we stop for lunch. We ride back to Kathmandu via Banepa and Bhaktapur. This is a perfect day out on the bikes.
Looking for an Easy Jaunt?
Nagarkot – Bhaktapur – Kathmandu – 65 km
Nagarkot is one of the best viewpoints in the Kathmandu Valley. We pedal up via the ancient village of Sankhu, leaving the valley floor behind and tackling a few steep gradients to reach the view tower.
On a clear day, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic Himalayan views from Annapurna in the west to Everest in the east. We stop here for lunch before freewheeling down to Bhaktapur.
Bhaktapur, one of the three ancient kingdoms of the valley, is a great place to wander and soak up the artisan culture. As afternoon traffic builds, we wrap up the ride here and drive back to Kathmandu.
Bhimdhunga Round – Kopan Monastery & Boudha
This ride showcases the best of the semi-urban outskirts of Kathmandu — where city life meets farming life and the national park buffer zone. We start by rolling through Sita Paila (Sita = Goddess, Paila = footprint), skirt around the edge of Shivapuri National Park, and traverse the valley rim to Kopan Monastery.
We stop for lunch and a bit of sightseeing at Boudhanath Stupa before returning to the office.
